Gallant — 'Neptune'

Bubbling R&B sensation Gallant has returned with his new project, Neptune.

Gallant released Neptune on Friday. The project draws inspiration from 1990s and early-2000s R&B and boasts features from Brandy, VanJess, and Arin Ray.

“On Neptune, I get to dive a little deeper into the feelings of regret, self-criticism and aimlessness that I started on my first album ‘Ology’ and combine those with the ambient and early 00s vibes that always get stuck in my head,” Gallant explained in a statement. “Everything around me felt blue and distant when I put this EP together, and I think that’s what you get when you play it back.”

The singer preceded Neptune with his latest single, “Relapse.” “Relapse” was the first record Gallant wrote for Neptune while he was trying to break away from his major-label deal.

“I wanted to be able to escape to something that felt like the middle of summer break when school’s out and you don’t have to keep track of the days anymore,” he said when explaining the feel of the record. “Something you can keep going back to that seems like it was made for you and only you. Like the safety of that one song, you found buried deep in the tracklist of that new album you just got. Something that won’t ever leave you and is finally fully yours.”

Neptune follows his 2016 debut album, OlogyHe made a great first impression with this introduction. Not only did Ology receive critical acclaim, but it earned Gallant a Grammy nomination.
