In the 24 hours since Machine Gun Kelly dropped his Eminem diss song "Rap Devil," Twitter has been full of hot takes about the beef. One fan even claimed that the track has now passed Ice Cube's legendary N.W.A takedown "No Vaseline" as the best diss song of all time.
Ice Cube couldn't help but respond to the claim on Tuesday. As the 49-year-old pointed out, he wasn't just taking on one other rapper when he recorded "No Vaseline" in 1991. He was taking on all four members of his former group, plus manager Jerry Heller. "Yeah right, one on one will never beat one against four (plus Jerry Heller)," Cube tweeted. Then he made sure to slip in the fact that he "murdered the track, killed the group. Game over."
Attacking his former group as a whole, as well as singling out individual members, "No Vaseline" included ruthless lines like, "Looking like straight Bozos/I saw it coming, that's why I went solo/And kept on stompin'/While y'all mothafuckers moved straight outta Compton." Shortly after the song's release, Dr. Dre left the group, leading to the end of N.W.A.
"I didn't know that at the time they was already fragmented, breaking up anyway," Cube told The Breakfast Club in early 2014, discussing the song's real-life impact. "So, that just knocked 'em down like bowling pins."
