Kesha Rose Sebertwent through an emotional court appearance on Friday when a judge refused to nullify her six-album recording contract with Sony Records. Her reasoning for walking away is because the contract gets her in contact with Dr. Luke, the producer she claims drugged and raped her in 2006.
Since the judge’s verdict, there has been an outpour of support from fans and women in the music industry. Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Lorde, Alessia Cara, Halsey and many more shared their support on social media.
Now, Demi Lovato has stepped forward to send some kind words to “brave and beautiful” Kesha. She adds that women should be "taken just as seriously as men," using Kesha’s sexual assault lawsuit as an example that we shouldn’t ignore.
Frustrating to see women come forward with their past only to be shot down, not believed & disrespected for their bravery in taking action
Happens way too often. I'm ready for women to be taken just as seriously as men..
Someone tell me why anyone would ever feel brave enough to come forward if they are most likely to be ignored or called a liar?
I'm also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking action for women's rights.
The October/November 2015 cover star also addressed the idea of empowerment, encouraging women to take action if you feel it’s the right thing to do. As Kesha continues to go through her legal battle, it’s comforting to know she has tons of people standing by her side.
Women empowerment is speaking up for other women even when it's something uncomfortable to speak up about.
Women empowerment is using your voice to help the voiceless women be heard.
Women empowerment is taking action now, not when it's convenient.
Women empowerment is leading other women to make actual changes in our society.
Okay I'm really tired.. Going to bed. Love you all. #equalityforALL (not just women) 👊🏼💗
