Chris Brown vs. Vanessa Carlton? This might be the most unlikely Instagram beef we’ve ever witnessed.

On International Women’s Day, Brown went to the social media platform to share a clip of Carlton’s 2001 video for “A Thousand Miles.” He captioned the post, “MOOD. THIS SONG LIT FOREVER”; however, Cartlon didn’t appreciate the shout-out, which is why she responded to the ill-conceived post with the following statement:

“Today Chris Brown posted my video. I am now being repeatedly tagged to his account. Being that today is International Women's Day I feel compelled to draw a line,” she wrote in a now-deleted post. “I support survivors not perpetrators of domestic violence. I do not want to be associated with an artist that has assaulted women on a day like today. Thank you. #internationalwomensday.”

It was a pretty obvious reference to Brown’s 2009 domestic abuse incident with Rihanna.

Brown eventually took the clip down, and reposted Carlton’s message on his own account. Why? Well, so he could defend himself while also accusing the singer of spreading hate.

“I posted a song that was and still is a great song and the artist felt she was doing her duty as a WOMAN to continue to spread this kind of hatred today,” he wrote in the caption. “I won’t keep it up long. I just hope she knows she is loved and her song is great.”

Both artists have since deleted the aforementioned Instagram posts. But, of course, Brown had to get the last word. The 28-year-old singer later posted the famous White Chicks scene in which Terry Crews' character sings Carlton's hit song.
