Justin Bieber Drops Defamation Lawsuit Against Sexual Assault Accusers

The 28-year-old singer sued the two accusers back in March 2020, the same month they took to Twitter to accuse him of sexual assault in two separate incidents.

Justin Bieber is ready to end a years-long legal battle.

According to Rolling Stone, the 28-year-old singer filed to voluntarily dismiss defamation lawsuits against two women who accused him of sexual assault nearly two years ago. The defendants were listed as Khadidja Djibrine and “Jane Doe,” who was identified simply as “Danielle” in court documents.

In March 2020, Danielle took to Twitter to claim Bieber had sexually assaulted her in an Austin hotel room after a performance at South by Southwest. The since-deleted post claimed the attack took place in March 2014; however, Bieber and his legal team argued that the artist wasn’t at the location on the day of the alleged assault, and was instead at a rental property with his then-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

Shortly after Danielle published the allegations, Djibrine posted similar accusations via Twitter. She claimed the pop star had assaulted her in March 2015 in a New York City hotel. Again, Bieber’s attorneys insisted their client wasn’t at the hotel at the time of the alleged attack, and was instead at a Met Gala afterparty. As pointed out by Rolling Stone, his lawyers claimed he was at the event until 4 a.m. in the morning that day, and even offered photo evidence to support his alibi.

Bieber filed the defamation suits the same month the allegations were posted to Twitter. He called the claims “outrageous, fabricated lies,” and sought $20 million damages.

It’s unclear why Bieber decided to dismiss the complaints, and it’s unknown if he reached a settlement deal with Djibrine. Discussions with “Danielle” never took place, as she was never located.
