Rowdy Rebel has released the Damien Sandoval-directed video for his new track “Rowdy vs. Rebel,” which sees him in a conflicted conversation with himself.

The wild visual for the Brooklyn native’s latest features him alongside his double, reflecting the lyrics. “Rowdy wanna rap, Rebel just wanna trap/Rebel wanna slide, Rowdy wanna chat,” he spits. “Rowdy got a mic, Rebel got a MAC/Rowdy seein’ green, Rebel seein’ black.” The chorus for “Rowdy vs. Rebel,” complete with those distinctive drill bass lines, sees him ultimately give into the Rebel side of his persona. It’s unclear if the track is taken from a forthcoming project, but it marks his first solo release in quite a while.

Earlier this week, Rowdy stopped by Hot 97 to deliver a freestyle for Funkmaster Flex over Jay-Z’s The Dynasty: Roc La Familia track “You, Me, Him and Her.” Prior to that he released a freestyle over Lil Durk’s “AHHH HA,” which marked his first solo drop of 2022. His latest major appearance arrived at the end of 2021 with “Ain’t My Fault,” which also featured Doe Boy and 42 Dugg.

The release of “Rowdy vs. Rebel” comes not long after he suggested he wasn’t going to release music until he had sorted his issues with his label, Epic Records. “I’m not dropping no more music until @epicrecords pay me,” Rowdy wrote in a since-deleted post. “I haven’t received one check for all the music I put out since 2014. I been patient but enough is enough.”
