A sold-out Nine Vicious concert in Phoenix, Arizona, ended in chaos when the rapper grew increasingly frustrated with the sound system at The Van Buren.
During the recent performance, which went down on Tuesday (Aug. 18), Nine Vicious started a chant directed at the venue, expressing his disappointment with the sound issues. In footage shared by 12News, Nine Vicious told fans, "I want you to mess up this venue … because they're playing with me."
“I was right on the barricade, and I guess the speakers kept going off, and it irritated the artist that was performing,” concertgoer Miguel Rodriguez told AZ Family. Another concertgoer said that Nine Vicious took the headset off of a security guard at another point, throwing it to the ground. After that, he got into an argument with the security guard and left the stage. Twenty minutes later, the lights were turned out, and attendees were told that the show was over.
Phoenix police officers responded to the scene after an increasing number of concertgoers refused to leave the venue at approximately 9 p.m., an hour after the concert was scheduled to start.
“Everyone was pretty mad,” said another concertgoer, who was identified as Josh. "I understand why Nine Vicious was angry. You know, he paid a lot for the venue, for the staff, and then his sound wasn't right. I do think some of his actions were unhinged and uncalled for."
Officers began using pepper spray on some of the people who refused to leave. Rodriguez described the scene as “chaotic,” and said that they were worried for the safety of some of their friends. Others said that they witnessed attendees damaging the property.
Nobody was arrested, and there were no reported injuries. The venue has not commented on the matter, but those who spoke with AZ Family said they requested refunds.
