After appearing on “Knife Talk” off Certified Lover Boy, Project Pat sat down for some interview talk.

Speaking with 360 Plug Hype, Pat explained how he got involved with the Drake track, and elaborated on some of Drizzy’s Memphis connections.

“I mess with Drake daddy, Drake daddy mess with everybody down here,” Project Pat said of Dennis Graham. “OG, he be downtown kickin’ it. Look—and the gangstas—ain’t nothing gon’ happen to him. Nothing. Ain’t nobody gon’ mess with Drake daddy, bruh. Nobody, man. No, you gon’ get flatlined. They don’t play that because, see, Drake show too much love down here.”

One way Aubrey showed love to the city is by tapping Pat for his appearance on CLB. As Pat puts it, “Knife Talk” was actually set to be on a 21 Savage project—fans have noted it would’ve fit nicely on Savage Mode II—but after Drake got his hands on it, the rest was history.

“Really man, it was a track that was done and Metro Boomin, that’s my guy too, he hooked it up. He had the track, it was supposed to go on 21 Savage’s album but it didn’t make it. And then Drake got it, man, and he gave me that Drake blessing.”

The track was one of nine songs to crack the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 during debut week, and for Pat, it’s the highest charting song of his solo career, appearing at No. 4 and beating out 2001’s “Chickenhead” and 2008’s “Lolli Lolli (Pop That Body).”
