Future thought it was a drought, but scientists know it’s a pandemic.
A new image of the latest potential COVID-19 variant, dubbed “Deltacron,” made its way to the internet, and hip-hop fans have all made the same observation about the purple and blue shape—it sort of looks like Future’s DS2 cover.
Yes, the pandemic we’ve been living through for two years may now have a variant that resembles a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, which Complex ranked as its second-best record of 2015. Fans started noticing the similarities on Monday after CTV News shared a tweet featuring a rendering of the virus.
The CTV News piece covered how health experts were divided on the potential variant, which was first spotted by University of Cyprus professor Dr. Leondios Kostrikis, who noted 25 cases of the possible mutation which features a resemblance to both the Omicron and Delta variants. Some within the World Health Organization and beyond, however, are pointing to a likely lab error as the reason for the finding.
“Okay people let’s make this a teachable moment,” infectious disease physician Krutika Kuppalli said Sunday. “There is no such thing as #Deltacron (Just like there is no such thing as #Flurona.” As she shared, it “did NOT form a super variant.”
