Given that this era of Kanye West is marked by slapdash approaches to work, it's easy to see why some folks might be skeptical of West's recent veering into Christianity. However, the pastor that has been sermonizing at West's most recent Sunday Services wants the world to know that Kanye is putting the work in and genuinely believes himself to be saved.
Pastor Adam Tyson has been working with West on a spiritual level, and shared what he's seen on the Pure Flix Podcast. Tyson said that West met him at his small California church and told him that he had been "radically saved" weeks before.
"He said, ‘I was just under the weight of my sin and I was being convicted that I was running from God, and I knew I needed to make things right, so I came to Christ,'" Tyson said.
Tyson met with Kanye and spent hours walking through the gospel with him, eventually leading to an arrangement where West would fly the pastor out to his new Wyoming home for weekly Bible study. He said he's seen a transformation in West in the time that they have been together.
“The fruit that I’m seeing is he’s no longer continuing in some of the sin patterns that he was before he came to Christ,” Tyson said. “Right now, every day, he is living and walking with God, so from what I can tell, there’s no reason for me not to encourage that and be a part of that...I’ve spent enough hours with this man to know God is at work.”
Tyson also spoke about how West is now longer down with cursing in his creative process or otherwise. "If somebody cusses in his presence, I’ve heard him say a couple of times, 'Hey, man, you can’t cuss when you’re with me. I’m a born-again Christian,'" he said. "Who’s gonna say that if they’re not meaning that they want Christ to be exalted in all that they do?[He told me], 'From now on, all I want to do is serve Christ. I want every song that I sang, to have part of my testimony, to include the gospel, and to include the element of worship to our great God. That’s what I want to do.'"
