Rapper Travis Scott received a key to his hometown Missouri City, Texas on Saturday. The city, a suburb of Houston, presented the key to La Flame during its annual Black History Month celebration, officially naming February 10 “Travis Scott Day.”
The rapper was joined by Houston Rockets all-star player James Harden, who made an appearance on Scott’s music video for “Way Back” last year. Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen presented Scott with a key to the city, followed by a short performance of his single “Butterfly Effect.” Watch a video of the ceremony below.
“This is better than any award show I’ve ever been to,” the 25-year-old said after being given a key to the city. "All I ever wanted to do was go outside of the city and put on for the city as much as I can. This place right here gave me all my ideas...I owe everything to this city."
Scott released Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho back in December with Migos’ Quavo. His forthcoming album Astroworld is expected sometime this year. “My only job is just to inspire kids to be the best they can be, to reach their ultimate height,” he said Saturday. “Everybody has a dream and everybody can do it.”
This honor gives Scott something else to celebrate every February, alongside his brand new baby girl, who was born earlier this month. Scott and Kylie Jenner welcomed their first child, Stormi Webster on February 1.
