Steve Madden’s official account then accused Minaj of lying. “.@NICKIMINAJ you can't turn down an offer that was never made. #StopLying,” the tweet reads.
But a resurfaced VIBE interview from 2015 tells a different story. A clip of the story made it’s rounds online, thanks to 50 Cent, revealing that Madden did offer a campaign to Nicki, but ended up partnering with Iggy Azealea.
Per VIBE:
Another rapstress who could have collected a check from Madden and ironically, Iggy’s foe? Nicki Minaj. "I was gonna do a collaboration with Nicki Minaj and we got into a fight the first minute we met," he recalls, without pinpointing the exact cause. "And then we patched it up. We were cool. We text each other, we became sort of buddies. We were thinking of doing something, and I would’ve, but I was with Iggy and I thought, 'Coke and Pepsi.' It was a mistake. I made a mistake and I wish that I could go back in time and work with Nicki instead of Iggy."
50 called out the company for lying, and Iggy backed up Fif writing “This is facts.”
Since then, Steve Madden has tried to walk back its accusation that Nicki was lying. “.@NICKIMINAJ is an incredibly talented artist but we couldn’t work together cuz the timing wasn’t right,” one tweet reads.
“There is a lot of negativity out there right now, and I shouldn’t have contributed to that,” the two-post statement continues.
But it’s a little too late for Nicki. “You lied on me cuz it was the trendy thing 2do! Ain’t nobody buyin that clown shit,” she wrote in a quote tweet.
So apology definitely not accepted. Nicki 1, Steve Madden 0.
