Another one of JAY-Z’s companies is getting caught up in legal trouble. This time it's over a fight that broke out at his 40/40 Club back in March.
A man named Jose Irizarry has filed a lawsuit against Hov’s sports lounge and bar in New York City, according to TMZ. Irizarry claims that due to the venue’s lack of security and failure to control the crowd, a fight broke out that left him brutally beaten. The lawsuit doesn’t name JAY specifically, meaning any blame will be focused toward the club's management, but he is still the owner of the establishment.
The suit clarifies Irizarry was collateral in a fight between patrons and security, but did not instigate the brawl. He is asking the venue to pay for his medical expenses and other damages. “He was struck in the head and body during the brawl, and endured pain and suffering, lost wages and medical expenses that he wants the club to cover,” per TMZ.
The incident reportedly took place the same night a fight broke out with boxer Jermall Charlo. At the time Charlo's money and jewelry was also stolen, and Irizarry's attorney believes it was likely the same fight his client became a victim of.
JAY is currently caught up in another lawsuit over a documentary he’s creating through Roc Nation and Amazon about Meek Mill’s legal battle. He recently filed documents defending his company against the suit from the attorney representing Meek’s judge. The rapper and his legal team are still waiting to see if they can get the case dismissed or at least moved out of Philadelphia to a federal court.
