After dropping the video for "Famous Hoes" earlier this month, NLE Choppa is back with his Cottonwood project. Featuring the previously released singles "Side" and "Shotta Flow," the project caps off what has been a breakthrough year for the 17-year-old rapper. The viral success of his single "Shotta Flow" immediately saw him the subject of an intense bidding war among record labels, and Cottonwood makes it clear why that is.
With a bass-centric sound that proudly displays his Memphis roots, Cottonwood is as direct as one might expect from Choppa. To coincide with the release of the project, Choppa has promised that a short film of the same name is on the way soon.

In an interview with Complex, Choppa said the title of the project came from where he was born. "It was really just going into the studio, freestyling to the best beats that I heard," he said of Cottonwood. Asked what the biggest inspiration for the release is, Choppa kept it simple: "I just want to help people."
