Grimes Says Lil Uzi Vert Ghosted After Asking Her to Produce an EP for Him

Grimes produces, writes, and engineers her own music.

Grimes isn’t only a vocalist but has also produced a lot of her own work.

At one point, Lil Uzi Vert apparently contacted her to produce for him. Grimes claimed the rapper then ghosted her. She shared the story with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, explaining that she sent Uzi some tracks that he never even bothered to listen to.

"I sent him the WeTransfer and he never downloaded it,” Grimes told Lowe. “And I was like, ‘Dude, I spent two weeks on this.’ It hurt my feelings.”

“I think ‘Darkseid’ is from that session," she continued, referencing a track from her upcoming album, Miss_Anthrop0cene. "That’s how I have all these weird rap beats. It’s good when you can see when they don’t download it because then you can…get mad at them. He hasn’t done my manager and I see it. There’s one day left or whatever to download. Your files have not been downloaded yet.”

In late November, Grimes released the single “My Name Is Dark,” which she wrote, produced, and engineered. Her other 2019 releases include “Violence” and “So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth.”
