Total On-Demand Streams in U.S. Could Top 1 Trillion This Year

2019 may go down as the first year in which U.S. on-demand streams surpass 1 trillion.

2019's year-to-date total, per an extensive Billboardreport, is currently at 775.3 billion when accounting for both audio and video. That haul marks a 28 percent increase when compared to the same point in 2018, a year dominated by numbers from Drake's Scorpion, which was then one of five albums to bag at least two billion in on-demand audio streams.

For the week ending Sept. 12, Ariana Grande's Thank U Next has bagged over 2 billion on-demand audio streams. The second-most-streamed album of the year, so far, is Billie Eilish's When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? with 1.887 billion on-demand audio streams.

The U.S. figures in which the trillion-mark is aiming to possibly be surpassed count both audio and video streams combined. By comparison, 2018 closed out with 901 billion total on-demand streams. At this point in 2018, the tally was at 603.9 billion in audio and video streams.

Meanwhile, for the latest round album charts shuffling, Hits Daily Double projections have Post Malone on track to retain the No. 1 spot with his Hollywood's Bleeding album this week. Zac Brown Band's The Owl and blink-182's NINE, meanwhile, are currently projected to open at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
