Fiona Apple wants Lil Nas X to pay up.
Hours after her Vulture feature was published, Apple posted a video that addressed a portion of the interview that was left out. And, yes, it involved the "Old Town Road" artist and a purported debt.
"One thing that the lovely Rachel Handler didn’t mention that I did say in the interview which I would just like to say now is that Lil Nas X—you’re probably really great, but you used my song 'Every Single Night' (2012), too," Apple said. "You sampled that song, too, in a song called 'Kim Jong Un,' I think. And, um, hey, where’s my money, you cute little guy? Where’s my money?"
Lil Nas X sampled "Every Single Night" on "Kim Jung," a record from his 2018 mixtape Nasarati. The project doesn't appear to be available on any streaming services, so it's unclear if Lil Nas X has pocketed any money from the track.
As of Thursday night, the 20-year-old artist had yet to respond to Apple's video.
In the Vulture piece, which was published Wednesday, Apple explained why she refused Panic! at the Disco's request to sample her 2012 record "Every Single Night."
"The reason I didn’t give it to them—besides the fact that I don’t remember it, so it probably wasn’t that great to me—is because this other guy had just used a sample of that same song and had signed to my label," Apple said. "... And then Panic! at the Disco asked, and I was like, Wow, I can’t believe they even asked me. Usually people just go ahead and use it. I was just trying to not shit all over somebody else’s sampling of my song by doing it twice, but [Brandon Urie] called me a bitch. Which I think is hilarious."
