As an artist in the public eye, Halsey admits she felt pressured to comment her on-again, off-again relationship with rapper G-Eazy, whom she broke up with in late 2018.

The singer told Glamour she considered addressing the split on Twitter, perhaps live stream, or even an interview with TMZ. But she ultimiately chose to forgo a public statement because she didn't want the details of her private life to overshadow her professional life.

"The biggest lesson I learned was to make art, not headlines," Halsey told the magazine. "Because it can become quite easy, in the social media generation, to go from being a musician to becoming a personality."

Though she has yet to provide the details surrounding her and G-Eazy's split, the 24-year-old is still pretty open about the stuggles she's endured. Halsey spoke about the time she was admitted into a psychiatric facility when she was a teenager, shortly after she attempted to kill herself.

"It was a lot of things happening at once, with a complete lack of direction," she said about the hospitliazation, which led to her bipolar diagnosis. "Thank God I learned it then. Given what I've been experiencing the past couple of years [...] if I hadn't already had my meltdown, who knows when it would have happened?"

You can read Halsey's full cover interview on Glamour's website. The "Without Me" singer also opens up about being an "imitator"—(drawing inspiration from other creatives), the media's habit to spin stories, as well as the double standard female artists face when it comes to be "original."
