Shortly after Nicki Minaj started flaunting her new boo, Kenneth Petty, reports surfaced about his criminal past. Â
Word quickly spread that he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl, and is a registered sex offender in the state of New York. The crime took place in 1995, when he was 16. Now TMZ has dug up other charges against the 40-year-old, related to his time behind bars.
According to the report, Petty was hit with 18 violations from 2006 to 2013, while serving time in prison for a manslaughter conviction. Thatâs seven years in addition to the four he served for the rape case. While incarcerated, Petty accumulated two violent conduct violations, a violation for fighting, and five for disobeying a direct order.Â
People online quickly criticized Minaj for dating a registered sex offender, pointing to her brotherâs own child rape case and her relationship with 6ix9ine as other examples of her protecting or aligning herself with abusers.
But Minaj defended her boyfriend, an old flame from Queens, on social media writing, "He was 15, she was 16 ... in a relationship. But go awf, internet. y'all can't run my life. Y'all can't even run y'all own life. Thank you boo."
Of course, consent is required for all sex, even if people are in a relationship. According to prosecutors, Petty had used a sharp object to try and coerce the teen into having intercourse.  Â
Nicki also posted more photos and videos of them together, despite the backlash.
