This past week Andrea Kelly, R. Kelly's ex-wife and mother to his three children, talked to the women of The View about the time she spent married to the controversial musician who has seen his image and platinum-selling career overshadowed by numerous (and ongoing) sexual misconduct allegations. On the program, Andrea told the quartet of hosts that Kelly physically abused her, including a time when he attacked her in the back of a vehicle. “I thought I was gonna die,” she said. “I said ‘Robert, you’re going to kill me. I can’t breathe.’ I just thought, ‘Oh, my God. I’m going to die in the back of this Hummer.'”

In addition to that encounter, Andrea spoke of another instance where the Grammy winner left her hog-tied in bed. “He had his knee in my back and he took both of my arms around me, tied them, and then attached my legs to my arms," she explained. "He hogtied me and left me on the side of the bed and he actually fell asleep, and that’s the only way I got away.”

Andrea, who was a backup dancer for Kelly prior to her 13-year marriage to him, said she eventually came around to file for divorce after contemplating suicide. “I wen’t out on the balcony and I climbed up…One foot was on the railing and the other was on the wall…I looked down and God allowed me to see myself laying in blood,” she said. “That was my darkest moment…The fact that I was willing to leave [my children] let me known the best thing you have to do for you and your children to live is leave.”

She stated that the reason she is coming forward now (which seems like the time to note that they got divorced in 2009) is because of other similar accusations that have come forth against her ex.

"You cannot not speak when someone's life and what they've been through is parallel to yours," she said. "I wanted to bring validity to these women's stories...So much of it falls on deaf ears and no one believes them...I was like, 'If no one else is going to speak up for her, if no one else is going to believe her, at least she knows that I do.'

“(...) Some of the things [another victim] had described in detail, I had been through, I mean, verbatim. It’s about saving lives.”

In response to her accusations R. Kelly's representatives had no response, according to The View. In addition to her recollections, Andrea said the two also no longer speak. She also talked about what it was like when the artist was on trial (and eventually acquitted) for more than a dozen counts of child pornography related to sexually explicit photos and a video with a girl who was allegedly underaged back in 2008. On that subject she said they were separated at the time, and she was living in her own home. She also said she hadn't seen the footage said to include her ex.
