Happy birthday to Lil Wayne! As we celebrate the life and legacy of the father of modern rap, we can also bask in the excitement of knowing Tha Carter V drops tonight. After announcing the album six whole years ago, it's finally almost here.
This isn't the first time Tha Carter V billboards have appeared. Back in 2014, as HotNewHipHop points out, various promo popped up in Weezy's hometown of New Orleans and Atlanta. Those were later taken down because the album never came, as Wayne entered a long and tumultuous legal battle with Birdman and Cash Money.
“Y'all hung in there with me for the last 30 million years. ... I can't do nothing but thank y'all for all the love and all the passion and every ounce of everything I have left in my heart,” he said in a video announcing Tha Carter V's release. “It goes to y'all, honestly: my fans, my supporters, the world. ... I am nothing, absolutely nothing, without my fans, swear to god. I hope you guys love this album. ... With this album, I'm giving you more than me. You gotta always remember that this is years of work, this is four, five, six years of work that you'll be listening to.”
The latest, and possibly final chapter of Wayne's Carter series drops at midnight. There's still time to pre-order, and anyone who purchases a digital copy of Tha Carter V will also have early ticket access to Wayne's 2019 headline tour. To celebrate the release, Weezy F. Baby also dropped a limited addition merch collection.
