In the Kamikaze cut "Not Alike," Em revisited Kelly's 2012 tweet about daughter Hailie and subtly compared the Dirt star to R. Kelly. In response, Kelly promptly dropped his "Rap Devil" diss. The track, which was accompanied by a video featuring Kelly and a shovel, was given the live treatment at the rapper's FOB-opening set in Grand Rapids, Michigan Thursday night.
Before launching into the track in Em's home state, Kelly clarified that his and Em's differences are actually part of a battle between the past and the future. "This is not a battle between Michigan and Ohio," Kelly said, referencing his own home state. "This is a battle between the past and the motherfuckin' future. Knees weak of old age, the real Slim Shady can't stand up."
FOB's MANIA tour continues this weekend at Chicago's Wrigley Field and Columbus' Nationwide Arena with additional special guests Rise Against and Beartooth, respectively.
Kelly's Kamikaze response was followed quickly by one from Die Antwoord, whose issue with Em dates back to a mispronunciation on last year's Revival. In a freestyle response to Em's "Greatest," Ninja posited—among other things—that Em "used to rap better on drugs."
