Playboi Carti Expected to Storm Billboard Charts With Surprise Album 'Die Lit'

'Die Lit' is now expected to move 65,000 copies in its first week.

Playboi Carti sent his fans into a frenzy with the arrival of his debut studio album Die Lit on May 11 via AWGE/Interscope Records, the follow-up to his 2017 self-titled mixtape. Die Lit includes many notable features from Nicki Minaj, Lil Uzi Vert, Skpeta, Bryson Tiller, Chief Keef, Young Thug and more.

It's no wonder the album is now expected to move 65,000 copies in its first week, including streams, per HitsDailyDouble. Around five to 6,000 of that number are expected to come from pure sales, Hip Hop N More reports. The sales should place Carti in the top five on this week’s Billboard chart.

At the end of March, producer Pi’erre Bourne confirmed the project was already completed. “Somebody from the label wants me to tweet Carti's albums done,” Pi’erre wrote in a now-deleted tweet. When a fan questioned who exactly from the label requested the announcement, Bourne replied, “Me.”

Fans knew the project was coming but a date was never announced, until Carti made a surprise announcement on Thursday night, tweeting, “*  * CARTI ALBUM @ 12* +am ok !”

The album has been getting major critical acclaim, further solidifying Carti's rank as one of rap's most dynamic young upstarts.
