Earlier this year, G Herbo appeared on K104FM and dropped a tight freestyle over Three 6 Mafia’s “Who Run It,” which Drake apparently loved so much he DM’d Herbo demanding he drop a full, studio-produced version. Not only did Herbo come through, but other rappers like ASAP Rocky, 21 Savage, and even Bhad Bhabie followed suit with their own remixes.
According to XXL, Montana of 300 launched the fundraising page on Monday, which as of this writing has raised around $1,000. It’s unclear how long he’ll keep this up, and if the financial goal will even be reached, but Herbo reacted to the news on social media without naming Montana directly:
According to Herbo, this is not a respectable move. “Oh man, ya’ll got rappers out here opening GoFundMe’s and shit for ‘Who Run It’s’ and shit,” he said. “What the fuck is going on?”
As for Montana, he maintains that the only reason he's even asking for cash is that it isn't worth stepping away from the production of his new album to spit a freestyle. "If you think I’m in NEED of $15K then u got life fucked up," he wrote in the description of his Instagram post. "I said I’m not TAKING TIME AWAY FROM WORKING ON MY ALBUM, to go work on what y’all begging me to go work on (a remix that I can’t profit financially off of) unless I get paid first."
He continued in a quite lengthy response to the recent criticisms, with an attempt to contextualize his activity as clearly as possible—even mentioning Drake. "But I’m very comfortable financially so that and none of that soul selling is necessary," he wrote. "N don’t nobody else donate. We already got the names of who did and y’all be contacted. N for y’all Mfs that say dumb shit like “ALL HE DO IS MAKE REMIXES”...My “FIRE IN THE CHURCH” Album was #2 Album next to @champagnepapi 'Views' Album. AND I’m finna make my next album be #1. Watch My Moves."
