Enigmatic R&B singer H.E.R. and Rihanna are up to something. In an interview with German journalist Malcolm Music, the 20-year-old revealed that the two are working on “secret projects." When asked if said projects included a music collaboration, she smiled and said, “something like that.” Watch her mention the upcoming projects at the 8-minute mark in the video above.
About a year ago, Rihanna co-signed the young singer in a vibe-y, slow motion Instagram post that featured H.E.R.’s single “Focus.” “That was insane,” H.E.R said in the interview, commenting on the post. “I was jumping up and down and I never do that. I was super excited.”
The singer, whose real name is Gabi Wilson, also talked about why she remained anonymous at the beginning of her career. “I wanted people to focus on the music and the message,” she explained. “The music needed to speak for itself.” She listed superstar and fellow Rihanna collaborator Sia as an inspiration for her mysterious image.
Wilson released her debut EP H.E.R. Volume 1 in 2016, and followed it up with H.E.R. Volume 2 last June. She was also featured on Daniel Caesar’s album Freudian, and is currently touring in Europe after supporting Bryson Tiller on his North American tour last fall.
Meanwhile, Rihanna is reportedly adding lingerie designer to her already extensive resume. But it doesn't seem like her latest venture will keep her out of the studio. Some anticipate that Rihanna will drop a new album this year, following her 2016 masterpiece ANTI. Will this mysterious collaboration involve that new album? Only time will tell.
