To celebrate its 15th annual Cow Appreciation Day, Chick-fil-A is offering up free food to customers on Tuesday (July 9) who arrive at the restaurant donning any cow-related apparel. The fast-food chain will be honoring its "udderly crazy" promise at the 2,400 locations across the U.S. from the time the restaurant opens until 7 p.m.
According to the fine print, the restaurant will honor those customers who "make or buy" a cow costume and offers the following examples: "a spotted accessory, black and white spots on t-shirt, a cow hat or mask, etc."
Chick-fil-A says the annual celebration is "our day to show our customer appreciation and honors our iconic Eat Mor Chikin® Cows." The offer includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, as well as Kid's Meals featuring Chick-n-Strips and nuggets.
The chain has used cows in its advertisements for 24 years. Centered around a fictional storyline, cows urge customers to eat more chicken instead of beef to save their own lives. Typing it out makes it feel even more bizarre.
1.95 million people reportedly participated in Cow Appreciation Day in 2018. So nearly the entire population of Idaho turned a blind eye to the chain's discrimination for some free poultry. The restaurant has been a point of contention for several years given its donations to anti-LGBTQ groups and discriminatory policies of the same nature. Recently, the San Antonio City Council gained national attention after voting against the construction of a Chick-fil-A inside the city's airport on account of the company's prejudices.
