UPDATED 10/31, 3:15 p.m. ET: The alleged home intruder who attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband has been charged with federal crimes.

Per CNBC, the Justice Department filed two federal criminal charges against 42-year-old David Wayne DePape on Monday for his alleged attack on Paul Pelosi. According to the federal criminal complaint, evidence indicates that DePape “was prepared to detain and injure Speaker Pelosi when he entered the Pelosi residence in the early morning” last week. He was carrying a hammer, zip ties, tape, and rope when he broke into the San Francisco residence.

DePape told Paul that “he would wait” when he was informed that Nancy Pelosi was not home, and wouldn’t be for a number of days. "DePape also later explained that by breaking Nancy’s kneecaps, she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other Members of Congress there were consequences to actions." The complaint accused him of planning to hold the House Speaker hostage.

He has been charged with attempted kidnapping, and assaulting an immediate family member of a United States official with the intent to retaliate against the official on account of the performance of official duties.

The man alleged to have broken into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco home and assaulted her husband was potentially planning to stage similar attacks targeting others, sources claim in a new report.

Monday, CBS News cited police sources as stating that the suspect in question, David Wayne DePape, had a list of potential future targets. According to these same sources, DePape “may have been planning” further attacks targeting other unnamed individuals, although additional details were not disclosed.

The report follows separate updates from the Associated Press and CNN, both of which cited close-to-the-investigation sources over the weekend as stating that DePape had been carrying zip ties with him at the time of the break-in and subsequent attack. As readers will note, zip ties were also carried by some of the individuals involved in the fatal Capitol riot in January of last year.

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) shared a joint statement on Friday confirming each agency’s involvement in the ensuing investigation into the break-in and assault.

Per police, the House Speaker was in D.C. at the time of the attack. As previously reported, her husband, Paul Pelosi, is alleged to have been attacked with a hammer by DePape. He later underwent surgery to fix a skull fracture as well as “serious injuries” to his arms and hands.

Complex has reached out to USCP and SFPD reps for additional comment on the latest developments. This story may be updated.
