Even though Bernie Sanders has not officially dropped out of the Presidential race, he admitted that he probably won't be the Democratic Presidential nominee during a C-SPAN interview on Wednesday. So during an interview on MSNBC's Morning Joe on Friday, Sanders was asked if he plans on voting for Hillary Clinton in the general election in November, and he revealed that he will be giving his vote to her.
"I think that the issue right here is I'm going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump," he said, reiterating a sentiment he's expressed before. "I think Trump in so many ways will be a disaster for this country if he were to be elected president. We do not need a president whose cornerstone of his campaign is bigotry."
While speaking on Morning Joe, Sanders also explained his reasoning for staying in the Democratic race long after Clinton received enough delegates to secure the nomination by saying he wanted to "fight for the strongest possible platform."
Sanders has said other things suggesting that his campaign is now less about winning the nomination and more about advancing causes like election reform and a $15 minimum wage. At a speech in New York Thursday night, he said that even as campaigns end “political and social revolutions continue.” During the same speech, he also talked about how he won't endorse Clinton.
In addition to making that speech in New York, Sanders appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday and urged more Americans to get involved with the voting process. "All of you and everybody else who’s watching have got to be involved in the political process," he said, "have got to stand up and fight for the kind of America that we know that we can become, and I’m never going to give up on that fight."
