If you’re like me, fewer things give you more unadulterated joy than watching a member of conservative politico-media complex, a.k.a. Fox News, make an ass of themselves on national television. Bonus points if it’s when they’re shilling straight up lies and are forced to eat their words. Well, my lovelies, that’s precisely what happened to Sean Hannity on Thursday night.
The bombastic television “news” (quotes mine) anchor went off about the New York Times, saying it was “trying to distract you” with their report that Trump had tried to fire special counsel Robert Mueller last year.
“Our sources, and I’ve checked in with many of them, they’re not confirming that tonight,” he said. “And how many times has the New York Times and others gotten it wrong?”
Rarely, dude. It’s the New York fucking Times. To be fair, it’s kind of an inconvenient narrative for the Trump fanboy. When the President is found to have been trying to fire the very man investigating his administration for collusion with the Russians, it’s not exactly a good look. That doesn’t make it false, however, as Hannity gloriously learned just minutes later.
The anchor was forced to backtrack a bit, because as they are wont to do, the New York Times got it very right.
“Yeah, maybe Donald Trump wanted to fire the special counsel for conflict. Does he not have the right to raise those questions? You know, we’ll deal with this tomorrow night.”
Damn, Hannity. Not even Lance Armstrong could backpedal that fast, even with steroids. You can watch the clip above.
