A six-year-old South Carolina boy had what can only be referred to as a very bad pre-Mother's Day after his mom, 30-year-old Shontrell Murphy, reportedly beat him because he made a card for his grandmother, but not her.
The incident went down last week in the northwest town of Spartanburg. Police were called to the scene and, when they got there, found the grandmother standing next to two grandchildren, one of whom was crying. The grandma told the officers that her daughter (Murphy) had hit her grandson multiple times on the back, side, and front of his head. Furthermore, the police report stated that when Murphy realized the card wasn't for her, she tore it up into little pieces. The officers taking the report made sure to note they found torn up pieces of a handwritten card at the scene of the incident.
Their report adds that Murphy acknowledged hitting her son, but that she didn't believe it "was in a hard or violent manner." The children contradicted that by adding that Murphy frequently hits them in a violent manner, and that they're afraid of her.
For her alleged conduct, Murphy is facing a charge of child cruelty. As for the six-year-old, he went to the hospital for a routine evaluation, but was later released.
