Shooting Outside Salt Lake City Sneaker Con Leaves One Dead

A man who was leaving Salt Lake City's Sneaker Con on Saturday afternoon was fatally shot after getting into a physical altercation with multiple people.

Salt Lake City’s Sneaker Con was the site of a shooting on Saturday afternoon, which left one dead.

Fox 13 reports that a man was killed at around 3:20 p.m. outside the Salt Palace Convention Center in the downtown area. He had been leaving the event when a physical altercation broke out between a few people who had also departed the convention.

The victim was subsequently fatally shot in the street. Police attempted to save the victim, who was in critical condition when they arrived. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police described the scene to be “very chaotic” and confirmed that the victim was a man, though his identity hasn’t been divulged.

According to witnesses, the shooter and at least one other person fled the scene, running to a parking garage and sped off in a vehicle. No one has been arrested for the murder and authorities are still searching for the vehicle and suspects.

Sneaker Con, which organized the convention, issued a statement online. “Authorities informed us that the incident related to an altercation outside of the Sneaker Con event arising from a three-shell Monte game, a coordinated scam taking place throughout the United States,” the statement says. “The altercation was not affiliated with our Sneaker Con event, nor did the suspected three-shell Monte orchestrators attend our event.”
