Billionaire Richard Lugner has died at the age of 91.
According to People, the Austrian native passed away on Aug. 12 at his villa in Vienna. He had reportedly suffered a spate of bad health and had recently had surgery.
Austria’s chancellor, Karl Nehammer, remembered Lugner on X, writing that he was a “successful entrepreneur” with a “dazzling personality.” Nehammer also shared a photo of him with Lugner and Priscilla Presley at the Vienna Opera Ball earlier this year.
Lugner was known to bring celebrities to the Opera Ball, including Kim Kardashian, Jane Fonda, Pamela Anderson, and Goldie Hawn. He also dabbled in politics, running twice for the Austrian presidential elections in 1998 and 2016 as an independent. However, he launched his career in construction and is known for building the Lugner City shopping center in Vienna in 1990.
The complex issued a tribute to Lugner on Facebook, writing, in German, “We can hardly put into words the pain we feel. The grief is indescribably great, but we want to reflect on all the beautiful and great times together. With a laughing and a crying eye we say goodbye to the great Richard Lugner, in our hearts he will stay forever!"
Lugner married 42-year-old Simone Reiländer on June 1, his sixth wife. He leaves behind four children, Jacqueline, Nadine, Alexander, and Andreas.
