A shooting at a Texas high school has reportedly left at least one student dead.
According to KPRC 2, police responded to reports of a shooting at around 4 p.m. Tuesday inside Bellaire High School, located about 10 miles south of Houston. Authorities say emergency personnel performed CPR on a student who was wounded in the chest; the victim was then transported to the hospital, where officials say the student died.
The student's name has not been released, however, the Chronicle reports the victim was 16 years old.
Law enforcement continues to investigate the shooting and have yet to identify a motive or make an arrest. Though officials say this is not an active shooting situation, the suspect remains at large. The community has been urged to remain indoors and avoid the area until further notice.
Grenita Lathan, the superintendent of the Houston Independent School District, told reporters class will resume Wednesday at Bellaire High, though there will be extra security on campus.
