Camille Cosby Is Still Trying to Get Out of Testifying in Bill's Civil Case (UPDATE)

The ongoing saga of whether or not Bill Cosby's wife, Camille Cosby, will have to testify in the defamation lawsuit against her husband has taken yet another turn as Camille's lawyers have filed an emergency motion as a last-ditch effort to prevent her from having to appear on Feb. 22.

The motion was filed less than 48 hours before Camille Cosby was scheduled to appear for the deposition, which is set to take place at a Marriott hotel in Springfield, Mass., according to Variety.

The attorney for the seven women who are suing Bill Cosby, claiming he defamed them when he denied their rape allegations, filed a subpoena last year to bring Camille Cosby to the stand. Cosby's lawyers fought that subpoena, saying that Camille Cosby would have no knowledge of the case, but a judge denied them by ruling in January that Camille was ordered to appear.

Late last week, the judge denied Cosby's lawyers' request to delay Camille Cosby's testimony, which led to lawyer's filing the emergency motion late Saturday night. She obviously really, really doesn't want to do this.

Camille Cosby, at least in the media, has so far stood behind her husband despite the overwhelming number of accusations against him, although she hasn't said much. She issued a statement in late 2014 suggesting that Bill Cosby could be the victim of irresponsible reporting, although way more accusers have come forward since then.

As of December, Bill Cosby is also facing criminal charges that he drugged and raped a woman at his home in Pennsylvania in 2004. In total, Cosby has been accused of rape by more than 50 women, though the statute of limitations has run out on criminal charges in the majority of those cases.
