A pet monkey was shot and killed in Oklahoma after attacking a woman and ripping a portion of her ear off while the victim was on her front porch.

CBS affiliate KXII-TV reports the incident took place last Sunday in Dickinson, a town located in southern Oklahoma. The victim, Brittany Parker, was inside her home when she noticed the monkey on her front porch.

“I had actually FaceTimed some family and I was like, ‘look there’s a monkey,’” Parker recalled. “He was pacing back and then he was jumping off of my railing and hitting my storm door.”

Parker called police after the monkey ripped off part of the door handle in an attempt to get inside of her house. While Parker went outside to speak with law enforcement, the monkey charged her and attacked.

“He crawled up my back, yanked out multiple wads of hair and then ripped my ear in half,” Parker said, per KXII-TV. “And it was just hanging.”

Parker was transported to a local hospital, where she was given a rabies shot. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

While police were searching for the monkey, a friend nearby Parker’s home shot and killed the primate.

“It’s Oklahoma, it happens,” Dickson Police Chief Tim Duncan told KXII. “We get animal calls all the time. It’s something that we deal with, it’s just- monkeys are not a normal thing for us.”

Duncan continued, “Since the woman was injured pretty badly, we’re taking the information to the district attorney’s office, and they’ll make a final decision on what they want to do with this case.”
