Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh testified about allegations of sexual misconduct on September 27, shocking the country with a snarling testimony that made it clear that he sees a position on the nation's highest court as rightfully his (and doesn't know how easy he's making it for meme generators). Seeing this, Parkland school shooting survivor and activist Emma Gonzalez headed to Twitter to call the nominee a "privileged white boy."
“Call your senators and tell them to vote no for Kavanaugh,” Gonzalez wrote. ”The future of our country deserves more than a privileged white boy who’s spent his whole life over-drinking and can’t answer a simple question without acting more immature about it than a 4-year-old.”
Gonzalez was referencing Kavanaugh's testimony, which stood in stark contrast to the measured accounts of Kavanaugh accuser and professor Christine Blasey Ford. Ford detailed to the Senate Judiciary Committee a story of a time that she claims Kavanaugh pinned her to a bed and attempted to remove her clothes while they were both in high school. The resistance to Kavanaugh is in character for Gonzalez, who has worked with her fellow Parkland survivors to advocate for gun control laws and, by extension, oppose conservative politicians and figures.
Since Ford came forward with her story, two other women have spoken out with allegations that Kavanaugh acted inappropriately. The first claimed that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a party at Yale and the second said that Kavanaugh "consistently [engaged] in excessive drinking and inappropriate contact of a sexual nature with women during the early 1980s.”
The committee has pushed back their vote on the nominee for a week so that the FBI can investigate the claims made by the three women.
