An Indiana man found an enormous surprise waiting for him at the bank.

Volunteer firefighter Charles Calvin went to the ATM to withdraw $200 from his checking account when he saw that he had a bit more money than normal. He told WGN 9 that he had an $8.2 million balance.

Calvin was expecting a $1,700 check from the coronavirus stimulus bill. He double-checked his account on the ATM to verify that what he saw was indeed real. He called his bank to let them know what was going on, but when the bank looked into, the money had vanished.

Calvin's bank notified him that his $1,700 stimulus payment had gone through. The incident left him wondering if the mistake was just a chance occurrence or if American taxpayers aren’t getting the right amount of money that the government has promised.

“It kind of sucks,” he told WGN 9. “You go from being a millionaire one second then back to being broke again. But hey, once you're poor you don't have anywhere else to go but up.”

The House passed the stimulus package in late March, which is aimed at curbing the COVID-19 pandemic’s financial impact. The measure directly deposits payment of up to $1,200 or more to millions of taxpaying Americans, as well as loans to businesses.
