Hours after House Democrats unveiled two articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, the president's campaign tweeted a video that was less of a clapback and more of a self-own. The clip shows Trump's head superimposed on the body of Thanos—the murderous supervillain who had wiped out half of the world's population.

"House Democrats can push their sham impeachment all they want," the tweet was captioned. "President Trump's re-election is inevitable."

The video shows Trump as the Mad Titan snapping his fingers, before cutting away to top Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, turning to dust.

The clip, which was taken from Marvel's 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, prompted a mix of reactions—most of which weren't so favorable to Trump. Many were confused as to why POTUS' campaign would compare the president to a bad guy responsible for the demise of billions of people, while others noted that Thanos was ultimately defeated in the film. In fact, the very scene the campaign used ends with Thanos being defeated by Tony Stark/Iron Man played by Robert Downey Jr.

Jim Starlin, the creator of Thanos, explained to The Hollywood Reporter that he was not happy with the move.

"After my initial feeling of being violated, seeing that pompous fool using my creation to stroke his infantile ego, it finally struck me that the leader of my country and the free world actually enjoys comparing himself to a mass murderer," the comic book writer said. "How sick is that? These are sad and strange times we are going through. Fortunately all things, even national nightmares, eventually come to an end."

There’s several levels of fail here.

1: You’re comparing Trump to a genocidal warlord.

2: That same warlord killed half the universe, tortured one daughter, and murdered the others.

3: This is the scene where Thanos realizes he’s been tricked and defeated. https://t.co/qV62rVm26i

The Trump campaign is now comparing the President to Thanos, the genocidal villain from The Avengers. This is bizarre. Even for them. (And they leave out the part where Thanos loses in the end) https://t.co/Cc4cWp1dbe

Trump's team uses a photo of his head photoshopped onto Thanos as a fundraiser. It's like they just revel in the fact that he's a villain. That's fine. Because this is us going to vote next year... pic.twitter.com/tkxTgRzA6g

This can’t be fucking real. Does Trump or his campaign not know that Thanos is the fucking genocidal bad guy who murder millions for a stupid belief that it will save life from itself? https://t.co/50ZMTKqA7C
