A 45-year-old New Jersey teacher has been arrested on child sex assault charges after she was caught in the act by her own children. As reported by NJ.com, Elyse Castillo worked for the Jersey City Board of Education and had allegedly sexually abused a 14-year-old student for over a year. She has been accused of starting the abuse in June 2018; her 13- and 14-year-old children reportedly caught her in the act in August 2019.

Castillo supposedly first met with the student when he was in sixth grade. Castillo told authorities that her and the student "would make love. She has also been accused of not telling him that she had herpes. She was arrested Aug. 29 and has already confessed to the crimes in a detention hearing this past week.

Castillo has been released, but if she is convicted, she could face somewhere between 10 to 20 years in prison. Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale has forbid her from having contact with any children, but she is still allowed to speak with her own kids. The confrontation with her own children, however, led to their father calling child protection services. He reportedly told authorities that he suspected she might have assaulted the children during their conversation with her.

"I think it’s reasonable under the circumstances to bar her from having any contact with children under the age of 18," DePascale added.
