A woman in Córdoba, Argentina, was just sentenced to 13 years in prison for using a pair of pruning shears to cut off her partner's genitals, the Buenos Aires Times reports.

28-year-old Brenda Barattini reportedly cut off 90 percent of 42-year-old Sergio Fernandez's penis and one of his testicles in November 2017. Barrattini confessed that she plotted the attack after finding out that Fernandez had shared a sex tape with his friends that the couple had made together.

"He violated my intimacy, my life and my career. It ruined everything," she said.

Fernandez testified that Barattini blindfolded him and lead him to believe that they were going to have sex, then snipped his penis with a set of gardening tools.

"We started having sex and she told me that she was going to give me a surprise, that she had something to give me," he said at the trial. "Then she told me to guess what she touched me with. She also wanted to tie me up but I didn't want to. She started giving me oral sex. Suddenly I felt something. She wanted to kill me in that second."

Fernandez was in a coma for eight days after the incident. A jury unanimously found that Barrattini was guilty of attempted murder, a charge that she disputes in spite of admitting to the attack.

"I am very sorry for what I did, I never wanted to kill anyone. I ask that justice be done. I have screwed up my life, I want to continue with my normal life," she said ahead of her sentencing.

Barattini was given the full 13 years that prosecutors were requesting. Barattini's attorney, Iván Sironi, said that he plans to appeal the ruling.

"In the history of Argentine Justice, there has been no aggravated homicide for an attempt at a penis injury," he told the Times.
