Instagram users experienced the five stages of grief on Thursday morning as Instagram accidently rolled out a new update to its feed. The outrage set in immediately as people opened up their app to a “tap-to-advance” layout, similar to IG stories, instead of the traditional scroll.
“This was caused by a bug and we quickly rolled it back,” an Instagram spokesperson told TechCrunch.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, also chimed in shortly after the backlash.
That was supposed to be a very small test that went broad by accident. Should be fixed now. If you're still seeing it simply restart the app. Happy holidays! 😬— Adam Mosseri (@mosseri) December 27, 2018
Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today. We quickly fixed the issue and feed is back to normal. We apologize for any confusion.— Instagram (@instagram) December 27, 2018
The change has been reversed and Instagram feeds are returning to normal, but not before everyone lost their shit, taking their anger and grief to Twitter.
