Ruth E. Carter, whose prolific career as an acclaimed costume designer spans decades, has linked up with vintage and secondhand marketplace Thrilling for the new Vintage Studio Services Program.

The program, announced Thursday, is billed as an initiative that aims to assist stylists, designers, and production companies in the sourcing of vintage and secondhand pieces for projects across film and television. Carter is also featured in a new Thrilling campaign and—per a press release—has pledged to use the Vintage Studio Services program in her own 2022 projects.

“It’s thrilling!” the Oscar-winning Black Panther costumer designer and Thrilling brand ambassador said. “I really want to know where this has been all my life? Seriously. I can’t tell you how many small vintage shops and back storerooms I have rummaged through. This idea not only brings the product to you, it cuts out all the sneezing!”

According to Thrilling, which is a Black- and woman-owned business, its site currently hosts more than 600 stores in more than 200 different cities. The marketplace was founded back in 2018 by Shilla Kim-Parker and Brad Mallow with the goal of facilitating more sustainable wardrobe decisions in the industry.

In a statement shared Thursday, Kim-Parker said that the Thrilling team “couldn’t be more excited” about its newly announced partnership with Carter. “We hope more stakeholders join us in helping make their productions more sustainable and supporting the small independent shops that are the heart of our company,” Kim-Parker added.
