Rick Owens sent over 40 looks down the runway today at Palais de Chaillot, and every single item was made, it seems, for the dedicated following that the American-born, Paris-based designer has grown over the years. Divided evenly between a color palette of brown, black, and a metallic off-white, the futuristic yet primal collection stayed true to what the king of darkness has become known for: oversized outerwear, reverse layering, and sleeveless pieces.
Set to a booming blended sound of trip-hop and house music, the collection wasn't aimed to woo editors and buyers or to stamp a vision upon the minds of the audience. This was a collection and show that was focused directly at the people who wear Rick's clothes (A$AP Rocky among them, who was posted up front row wearing a Rick Owens DRKSHDW jacket)—a pretty amazing feat for a still relatively small designer. And yes, the du-rags were definitely something that caused a stir, stoking up memories of Titan Classic for a few, but when has Rick Owens ever given a fuck about what should be worn in public and what should be kept at home? Plus, if anyone was distracted by the headgear, then it's their own damn fault they missed clothing so incredible they might as well end Paris Fashion Week right now.
