For a show that opened yesterday at Galerie Perrotin's Paris location, Daniel Arsham has imagined a not-so-distant future. In this future, things like microphones, keyboards, CDs, and headphones have become things of the past. They appear as crumbling relics, falling apart from the passage of time.
Arsham's show, "The Future Is Always Now," is his ninth solo exhibition at Galerie Perrotin. It is hinged on the theme of music, but also asks questions about technology. With advances in tech increasing exponentially every year, inventions are rendered out of date even quicker. How far away is Arsham's future? Probably not that far.
Arsham has created about 20 sculptures out of glacial rock dust, ground volcanic glass, hydrostone, rose quartz, and steel for the exhibition.
Previously, Galerie Perrotin Paris hosted an exhibition curated by Pharrell titled "G I R L." For the show, Arsham created a cast of Pharrell's body.
"The Future Is Always Now" opened yesterday and is on view until July 26, 2014 at Galerie Perrotin.
