French photographer Patrick Gries’s new book Explorationfrom Editions Xavier Barral/Paris features over 250 skeletons of vertebrates, from the smallest to the largest. Gries spent six months photographing the skeletons at five different locations, including the Museum of Natural History in Paris.
His photographs are done in black and white, giving the skeletons a high-contrast, sculpture-like quality. Each photograph is accompanied by educational text written by French scientist Dr. Jean-Baptiste de Panafieu. The text, in combination with the powerful photographs, works to provide a compelling case for evolution, the transformation of life over many generations.
The photographs from the exhibition are now part of private collections and have been on display in France, Denmark and Russia.
