Sad news today, guys: J. Press York Street is being discontinued.
According to WWD, the brandâs parent company, Onward Kashiyama, has decided to merge the company with its flagship brand. It will still offer its youthful take on preppy gear; however, it will now be a sub-label called J. Press Blue, designed by J. Pressâ creative director, Mikito Takeshima.
This news comes just a little over year after Ovadia & Sonsâ Shimon and Ariel Ovadia left their positions as creative directors for the brand.
âWe started to see a shift in customer buying habits, with a growing percentage shopping both brands,â Onward USA president Takashi Sudo told WWD. âThe decision to combine the businesses just made the most sense.â
So whatâs going to happen to the J. Press York Street store on Bleeker? Itâs safe for now. According to the brandâs officials, the shop will continue to operate under the the same nameâhonoring the companyâs first store on York Street in New Haven, Conn.
