Lewis Hamilton on Collaborating With Tommy Hilfiger

Lewis Hamilton the clothing designer? It was only a matter of time.

Known for his bold sartorial choices, the Formula 1 champion has solidified himself as one of Britain’s most stylish sportsman—rocking head-turning ‘fits at Fashion Weeks, red carpet events, and beyond.

"To me, fashion is about embracing my individual style," Hamilton told Complex. "I like being bold and taking risks with fashion."

The athlete took his passion for clothing to the next level this year, when he accepted the role as Tommy Hilfiger’s global ambassador. Now, about six months after he landed the gig, Hamilton and Tommy have unveiled their first collaborative collection for Fall 2018.

And it’s pretty much everything you’d expect it to be.

"Tommy Hilfiger is one of the most iconic American designers. I’ve always had a love for fashion, and working with a great mentor like him has been a dream come true," Hamilton explained. "The collection speaks to the confident and modern Tommy Man through its bold colors, sporty influences and heritage pieces."

The range features a mix of streetwear, menswear, and sportswear pieces that fuse Hamilton's unique signature style into the American brand’s DNA. Garments include patchwork plaid hoodies, branded trackuits, a hooded utility parka, a bonded denim jacket, as well as tees, polos, and jeans. The TommyXLewis capsule also delivers accessories and footwear, such as caps, fanny packs, sneakers, and boots—everything you need for the upcoming season.

"Lewis and I have known each other for many years. He is bold in everything he does, whether it's racing, extreme sports, or fashion," Tommy Hilfiger said of the collaboration. "He also has a cool, unique personal style and an effortless confidence to his look, which fits with our brand, and speaks to the new generation of our fans.

According to Hilfiger, Lewis was "very involved in every aspect of the collection, from the creation of the logo to the design process and the end result reflects our signature styles coming together... This collection is a reflection of what inspires each of us. We revisited the brand’s sportswear roots, looking at our iconic, classic American styles and Lewis added his personal twist to the designs, drawing inspiration from his tattoos, street style wardrobe and his lucky number 44."
