It’s been nearly two months since Kate Spade’s death shocked the fashion world, and her husband Andy Spade is understandably still dealing with the loss.

In his first post on Instagram since Kate died, Spade paid tribute to his late wife. “She was born Christmas Eve, 1962,” he wrote under a photo of an outdoor tree covered in Christmas lights and topped with a star. "She loved the Midwest, the desert, and the city."

Spade goes on to explain that he and their daughter decorated the pictured tree, which they found outside of a friend’s house where they were staying. “We ordered those multicolored, old fashioned lights from Amazon or Target and another dear personal friend gave me a really Iong extension cord and Bea and I cut a star out of the cardboard box the lights came on and wrapped it in Reynolds wrap (TM) like we do every Christmas," he continued.

The beloved designer died by suicide on June 5. She was 55.

With the help of her husband, Kate launched her iconic handbag line in 1993. The brand later expanded into clothing and jewelry, becoming a household name before Spade sold the company in 2007. Kate Spade New York continues to operate today with dozens of stores worldwide.

Following her death, Andy Spade released a statement in the New York Times. "Kate was the most beautiful woman in the world. She was the kindest person I've ever known and my best friend for 35 years," he wrote. "My daughter and I are devastated by her loss, and can't even begin to fathom life without her. We are deeply heartbroken and miss her already."

She was also mourned by family, friends, and fans, many of whom characterized her as a brilliant, funny, and inspiring person. "I dont think everyone knew how fucking funny she was,” her brother-in-law David Spade shared in a tweet at the time. “Its a rough world out there people. Try to hang on.”
