Miami Beach fashion retailer Alchemist has announced a special project for this year's Art Basel Miami Beach in December. Titled AIRBALL, the interactive installation will be a collaboration with Brooklyn-based art and architecture collective Snarkitecture, and will inhabit a Herzog & de Meuron-designed carpark near the Alchemist space on Lincoln Road.
AIRBALL is described in a press release as a "custom environment designed by Snarkitecture that draws on familiar objects and materials from the visual and spatial world of basketball, while reinterpreting them through a unique and creative lens." Visitors to the installation will have the opportunity to shoot around, arcade-style, on an all-white elevated arena while others watch and relax in the tiered bleachers.
There will also be limited AIRBALL products sold at Alchemist during Art Basel, each made in collaboration with artists and designers including Kehinde Wiley, Rick Owens, Happy Socks, Del Toro, County of Milan, Rochambeau, New York Sunshine, Chrome Hearts, Stampd, Hall of Fame, and others.
AIRBALL will open on Dec. 1 and run through Dec. 7. Stay tuned for more information about the installation and the collaborative products.
