Kyrie Irving has been unable to play in any of the Brooklyn Nets’ home games this season due to NYC’s vaccine mandate, which requires people to have at least one shot of the vaccine to enter indoor gyms.

And yet, just a day after attending the ACC Tournament final between Duke and Virginia Tech, which was played at Barclays Center, a maskless Kyrie returned to the Brooklyn arena on Sunday for the Nets’ game against the New York Knicks.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania broke the news on Twitter Sunday morning, writing, “Brooklyn’s Kyrie Irving is expected to sit courtside to support teammates at Nets-Knicks on Sunday afternoon at Barclays Center. Irving is able to attend the game as a spectator, move freely, maskless … but cannot play due to private sector mandate.”

Of course, Kyrie’s decision caused a stir on NBA Twitter, as many fans took to the platform on Sunday to question why he’s allowed to sit courtside but can’t play in home games, while others still questioned his unwillingness to get vaccinated.

Is there a reasonable/sane/choose your adjective explanation to account for the Nets' Kyrie Irving being allowed to attend games Saturday and Sunday at Barclays Center as an unmasked courtside spectator but not be allowed to play at Barclays Center? https://t.co/eE9pniK87p

He also went to Duke-Virginia Tech last night and sat courtside. This is beyond absurd. https://t.co/ec6fdYWoDJ

You can be pro vaccine and also think this logic right here makes no sense. https://t.co/s323qMbcYU

We have reached the point this mandate really doesn't make any sense. He can be around freely and maskless but can't play. Pretty dumb at this point. https://t.co/lr1f5Dtwww

It’s so wild how Kyrie went from the face of illogical refusal to vaccinate to the face of illogical rules and regulations about masks and vaccines https://t.co/H2VRFmcY5u

We will look back at this in 5-10 years and wonder wtf were we doing? #PoliticalTheater https://t.co/7g2mhcDEmc

The biggest detail of the Kyrie sitting courtside loophole is that it weakens the legal standing of the private employer vaccine mandate.

It exposes the flaw in the mandate. By not exempting Kyrie, it threatens the entire mandate. https://t.co/Mg7ORyY4Wu

I feel like everybody has the wrong takeaway here. It’s not stupid that he can’t play. It’s stupid that he can be there. https://t.co/c6WzMyxuek

I don’t care how dumb any given Covid rule is, the only person preventing Kyrie Irving from playing basketball is Kyrie Irving. Get vaccinated. It’s a fucking pandemic. https://t.co/U5uEKvM75y
